Come Warm Up at SOL SPA
Over the weekend my husband and I took the kids camping for a little family time during their last weekend of the holiday break. Now, don’t misunderstand, when I say “camping” I mean in a camper with electricity, running water, and all the amenities, but we still do the whole camping routine of having a fire, roasting marshmallows for smores, campfire stew, and some other fun things. We had a great and much needed relaxing time together. My only gripe on camping this time of year is that I’m always cold! Even with heat in the camper and a fire blazing when outdoors, it’s still very cold for my liking, plus I have to worry about the kids getting sick. As I layered us up in clothing and we bundled in blankets by the fire, it got me thinking. How do frosty temperatures and biting winds affect our bodies and health?
Cold weather can increase your chances of getting sick and bring other health risks along with it. We all know that colds and flu seem to be everywhere during the winter months, but why does this happen? The reason the flu & other viruses spread so easily during winter is due to the fact that these viruses are more stable and are able to stay in the air for longer when it’s cold. This is why you are more likely to contract the flu from walking down the street on a cold day than you are from sitting in a warm room. (1)
Cold weather can also put increased stress on our cardiovascular system. Cold temperatures cause your blood vessels to constrict, shallow breathing, and a slight thickening of the blood. Cold temperatures can cause more problems for asthma sufferers. Cold air causes the air passages in the lungs of some asthma sufferers to contract, making it difficult to breathe. (1) Needless to say, it’s important to understand that keeping warm during the winter months is essential. That’s where we come in!
SOL SPA, the 24 hour smart spa offers Hot Detox Yoga & Hot Chakra meditation in our infrared saunas to help you combat these cold weather health risks. As the infrared heat penetrates your body causing you to sweat, the yoga postures further accelerate detoxification by physically removing the toxins from your organs through muscle contraction.
Cold, dry air can also worsen conditions such as eczema by drying out the skin. (1) During an infrared sauna session, you cleanse your pores of toxins and help the skin expel dry, dead skin cells. Regular sauna use can also help control skin inflammation, minimizing the constant itch associated with eczema and psoriasis. At SOL SPA, we offer amazing holistic skincare products for the body and face that can be worn during your Hot Detox Yoga session to help with skin dryness even further!
So, grab a friend & your mat and towel, and come warm up with us at SOL SPA, the 24 hour smart spa anytime day or night to combat those cold weather risks to your health and comfort!
